If
there's hope for humanity it's in software |

I
have taken my last trip as a technology evangelist for Sun Microsystems.
My feelings have been mixed these past few months...as recently as
September I had pretty well decided
to leave Sun...or at least evangelism for Sun. Then in
October I had a relapse and thought
another year in the saddle wouldn't be all that bad. But that was last
month. I have since finally resolved any misgivings I had about leaving
a mission I have grown to love, and at least for now, pursue other
adventures.
I have thoroughly enjoyed my time at Sun, which included many friends and
wonderful adventures...and am equally excited at other opportunities I can now
consider. I wish my friends at Sun the very best and will continue to honor
the values and ethics embodied in that firm.
My plans now
include movement, relaxation, some reinvention and copious amounts of
recreation with my dear wife...and who knows? Perhaps she and I will dream
up something that we can do together in the way of career and such...stay tuned.
I think Jack
London's credo summarizes my feelings best...
"I
would rather be ashes than dust
I would
rather that my spark should burn out
in a brilliant blaze than it should be stifled by dry-rot.
I would
rather be a superb meteor, every atom of me
in magnificent glow, than a sleepy and permanent planet.
The
function of man is to live, not to exist.
I shall
not waste my days trying to prolong them.
I shall
use my time." - Jack London
And I shall use
my time...
