Welcome
to the new look. Rebirthing the ol' web site has become something of an
annual ritual now, it seems. Just when I thought I was done with home page
design I realized that I was sick of the old look. And since I'm the one
who uses the site the most (as in, it's my homepage and portal whenever
I'm online, which is...always?..) it seems to me that I should change it
when it feels like it needs to be changed. In the case of this particular
design, the goad this year was the need to have an online dictionary button
on my portal (the "words" link on the far left) -- which led to a rethinking of the look, which led to consultations
with my dear and patient mate, which led to this new look. I'll leave much
of the content from my old site as it was, changing only a few decorative
items in order to blend better with the new look. But from here on, I'll
use the new template(s)...for now. Perhaps this site will evolve again
down the road. In fact, it's a sure bet...
So much has happened
since my last entry, which this new look
helps to celebrate. Instead of the Hacienda, we bought the Orchard. Liz and
I were both torn on the Hacienda -- while a wonderful property, we felt it
just didn't suit our needs in the long
term and would have been an ill-advised purchase from an investment perspective
otherwise. The Orchard, on the other hand, is a completely different story.
The first thing that struck us about the Orchard was, of course, the fruit trees...there are 43 of them. Cherries, peaches, apricots, plums, apples, pears...we will have
more fruit from our own trees that we will ever be able to properly gather
much less eat. I'm sure we'll have a time of it caring for the vegatation,
as it were...did I mention strawberries and raspberries as well? On 0.56
acres, the 2650 sq/ft home is architecturally interesting, has incredible
panoramic views of downtown Reno, Mt. Rose and the Truckee Meadows and
borders a county park which gives our grounds a feeling of isolation that
far surpasses the acreage. We absolutely fell in love with it once we tasted
the fruit... there have been other unanticipated changes that have occurred
since that moment in June when I decided to give the ol' web site a face
lift. No, that was just the beginning. We knew we were going to be moving
into the Orchard before the 4th of July. Much more has happened since then...
