It's not that I've been remiss -- just busy. Very busy. Between unpacking, family holiday obligations, and the next phase of Evangelism actitivies at Sun, I haven't had a chance to reflect let alone make a diary entry. I'm home today, but leave again tomorrow for another Sun event. Next week I should have a few days at home to catch up on a things not travel related. Clearly it's going to be a very busy year.Much has happened since my last entry -- as we anticipated, the move from Manhattan to Reno yields a rather dramatic change in life-style. We were both ready for a change as the day-to-day of Manhattan living had become less interesting for both of us (likely a function of marrying well) and it was time to move on. While we do very much miss our friends and favorite spots, I think we find that the extreme beauty and relative peace of Reno bring a living-vacation layer to our respective cognitive stacks and Liz and I are happy. Busy, but happy.
It's snowing as I write this. Large flakes. I grew up in the west, so I have some appreciation for the meaning of snow here. This being close proximity to a major resort area pretty well guarantees a few flakes each year -- Lake Tahoe hosts a number of skiing venues which attract a considerable number of visitors to the region seasonally. The lake is also a year-round tourist destination, coupled with the indigenous casinos of Northern Nevada, makes for the basis of a healthy economy. As such, it has to snow here. It's the law.
I've taken on some new duties at Sun recently -- in addition to Jini and JavaSpaces, I'm going to start talking about Sun Labs, the advanced research facility at Sun. Much goodness has come out of the labs -- and I'm honored to have been asked to begin evangelizing those various themes and technologies as such. I'll be writing more about the labs in future entries...
